Growing color, craft, and connection on the Washington coast.

PetalWorks Farm is where flowers, natural dyeing, and handmade craft come together — rooted in the soil, guided by creativity, and built with a lot of heart (and muddy boots).

The Story Behind PetalWorks

If you’d told me a handful of dahlia tubers would change my whole world, I’d never have believed you. But that’s really where PetalWorks began — with a neighbor’s generosity, a little garden magic. A place where growing, making, and sharing all came together in a way that felt like home.

It All Started With a Handful of Dahlias

At PetalWorks Farm, our story began with a simple gift from a neighbor that sparked something extraordinary.
One spring, my favorite neighbor, Janet, offered me a few dahlia tubers from her garden as she was dividing them. I gladly accepted—unprepared for how profoundly those flowers would change my life.

That summer, as the dahlias grew and flourished, I was completely captivated by their endless diversity of shapes, colors, and textures. Each bloom felt like a small miracle, and their ability to multiply underground—creating more plants each year—felt nothing short of magic. That was the moment I knew: I’d been bitten by the flower bug, and there was no turning back.

Before the Flowers, There Was…

Before the dahlias, I was already a farmer of sorts. We had sheep for wool, veggies and dye plants tucked around the garden. The long Pacific Northwest winters lent themselves to spinning, weaving, and experimenting with color. Making things by hand felt like second nature — a quiet, steady part of my life.

When the dahlias came along, it was like everything clicked into place. Their color, their abundance, and their wild personalities fit right in with the wool, the dyes, and the rhythm of the farm. Flowers didn’t replace my love of making — they expanded it. Suddenly, the garden and the studio felt connected in a whole new way.

A Roadside Stand and an Unexpected Beginning

Over the next few years, the garden grew alongside my obsession. Each season brought more dahlias, more color, and more joy. Eventually, I realized I couldn’t keep their beauty to myself.
On a whim, we set up a small roadside stand to share fresh-cut bouquets with our community. The response was overwhelming. People were drawn to the flowers’ vibrance and the simple happiness they brought into their homes.

“That’s when it clicked: flowers have the power to spark imagination, nurture the soul, and connect us to nature in a way few things can.”

Taking Root

From that realization, PetalWorks Farm was born. Today, we grow flowers not only to brighten vases but to inspire creativity and connection.

Our holistic, no-till growing practices honor the earth, while our workshops—teaching flower arranging, natural dyeing, and more—invite others into the joy of making.

Every bloom is a testament to growth, creativity, and the beauty of sharing what we cultivate.
